Close Your Catchall Email Account to Prevent Spam
Spammers typically perform "dictionary attacks," where they send a message to potentially almost every word in the dictionary. When a domain with a catchall account gets hit with this type of attack, the account quickly reaches its quota and is unable to receive additional messages. On the hosting provider's end, these additional messages also mean increased processing is needed to filter, analyze, route and deliver the messages to their ultimate destination. This ends up adversely affecting not just the domain with a catchall turned on, but all customers that share the mail server(s) with that domain.
