Smart Tip: Choosing a Template for a SharePoint Site

Before creating a SharePoint site, you must choose a template. The template choices included with the application include different features so you can choose what works best for your specific needs; or, you can use your own custom template.

To select a template follow these easy steps:

Under Template, select a template for your site. When you select a template, an explanation of that template appears in the Select a Template area.
The list may include:
- Team Site: A good choice for a wide variety of purposes, this flexible Web site is pre-populated with a variety of features for collaborating, sharing and publishing information.
- Blank Site: Not pre-populated with tools, this template is best if you plan to do most of the design and customization of the site yourself.
- Document Workspace: Pre-populated with tools related to document collaboration.
- Basic Meeting Workspace: Pre-populated with tools related to meeting tasks.
After you select your template, click OK and your new site automatically opens in the browser, so you can begin adding information to it.
