This marks the third time this year that it has been on top of the performance rankings, having shared the top spot in May and September. The award is based on the lowest number of failed requests and speed of connection time. The purpose of using these two measurements is to give the clearest indication of network capacity and congestions, with the least impact from the performance of the companies' own web servers.  Netcraft believes customers place more importance on the percentage of failed requests than outages on a hosting companies' site, as this gives an indication to the routing reliability.

Netcraft measures and makes available the response times of fifty leading hosting providers' sites. The performance measurements are made at fifteen-minute intervals from eight separate points around the Internet, and averages are calculated over the immediately preceding 24-hour period.
