During this time, national trademark holders may register their trademark as a .mobi domain name if the trademark was filed before July 11, 2005 and is actively registered.

The .mobi registry has created a set of guidelines to overcome the past issues experienced with accessing the Internet from a mobile device such as high bandwidth cost, low content quality and slow access. The trademark sunrise period gives trademark holders the opportunity to register their trademarks in the .mobi domain before someone else does. After September 22, registration opens to the general public. That's why trademark holders are strongly encouraged to register their domain name before the sunrise period ends.
