1. What are the options for backing up my managed server?
Hostway offers several backup solutions you can choose from, depending on your needs. Available backup solutions include Managed Backup, Backup Servers, Storage Arrays and Tape Backup Units.
The Managed Backup service allows you to back up 50GB of data per server for each server which has the Managed Backup Service. Additional storage space can be purchased at 10GB intervals. Optionally, add-ons for MySQL backups and read access to the Web UI are available. The data is backed up using R1Soft's CDP technology. Files and folders can be restored upon request or through the web interface. The entire server can also be restored upon request through a Bare Metal Restore.
Dedicated Backup Servers are also available for larger and more custom backup scenarios. A Dedicated Backup Server gives you full access to the R1Soft interface, allowing you to back up as much data as disk space and network throughput will allow. You can also customize the frequency of the backups, retention policies, compression and much more.
Hostway also offers Tape Backup Units and Storage Arrays, whether you are looking for additional data storage for your production environment or if you are putting together your own custom backup solution.
2. What are the benefits of load balancing?
For enhanced redundancy, services such as website hosting can be load balanced across multiple servers. This means the website can stay online even if one of the servers experiences a failure. The ratio of traffic each server receives is adjustable and can be tuned according to the servers physical hardware or resource usage. Load balancing also provides scalability. As a website becomes more popular, additional web servers hosting the site in question can be added in order to accommodate the increase is resource demand.
